After Zack Greinke¬†accepted¬†a trade to the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday, I immediately started to think about the Cy Young race in the National League. AL Cy Young winners from 2008 and 2009 have now joined the National League, creating a deep pool of talented starters. Here’s just a brief overview of the contenders for 2011:

1. Roy Halladay, PHI (2010 Cy Young Winner): 21-10, 2.44 ERA (2010)
2. Cliff Lee, PHI (2008 AL Cy Young Winner): 12-9, 3.18 ERA (2010)
3. Tim Lincecum, SF (2008, 2009 NL Cy Young Winner): 16-10, 3.43 ERA (2010)
4. Zack Greinke, MIL (2009 AL Cy Young Winner): 10-14, 4.17 ERA (2010)
5. Ubaldo Jimenez, COL: 19-8, 2.88 ERA (2010)
6. Adam Wainwright, STL (Finished second in 2010): 20-11, 2.42 ERA (2010)
7. Josh Johnson, FLA (Finished fifth, missed seven starts in 2010): 11-6, 2.30 ERA (2010)
8. Chris Carpenter, STL (2005 NL Cy Young Winner, three Top 3 finishes in last five years): 16-9, 3.22 ERA (2010)
9. Mat Latos, SD (Finished eighth in voting in first full season): 14-10, 2.92 ERA, 189 Ks
10. Cole Hamels, PHI (2008 World Series MVP): 12-11, 3.06 ERA, 206 Ks
11. Clayton Kershaw, LAD: 13-10, 2.91 ERA, 212 Ks
12. Roy Oswalt, PHI: 13-13, 2.76 ERA, 193 Ks

If I had to put $1,000,000 on one these pitchers, Mr. Halladay is my man.

How about you?

The New York Mets were defeated by the San Francisco Giants in 2-0 loss Thursday night. They begin an 11-game West coast road trip getting shutout by one of the best pitchers in the game. With another Braves win, the Mets fall further out of first place.

Another week of fantasy baseball is in the books. There really hasn’t been a stand out hitter, but Giants Ace Tim Lincecum has looked virtually un-hittable this season.
