The Philadephia Phillies scored 4 runs in the last 2 innings, including a 3-spot off Francisco Rodriguez in the 9th, to down the Mets by a score of 6-4.  The Mets fall to 23-27 with the loss.

It was my first live Mets game of the season, and it didn’t disappoint (except for the final score, of course).  It was a pretty lively crowd, about as full as you’ll get for a non-Yankee opponent this time of year, and it was just about perfect baseball weather (for once, this year).

The Phillies built a 2-0 lead off of Mets starter Chris Capuano on RBI singles by Jimmy Rollins and starting pitcher Roy Oswalt in the 3rd and 5th innings, respectively.  But the Mets were able to strike back with RBI singles of their own — Carlos Beltran in the 5th, Ronny Paulino in the 6th, and Justin Turner in the 7th — to take a 3-2 lead into the 8th inning.

For the last few days, we have heard that a ‘Mystery Team’ has entered the Cliff Lee sweepstakes. That suitor appears to be none other than the Philadelphia Phillies. Lee was a member of the Phillies during the second half of the 2009 season, pitching the team to their second consecutive World Series appearance. Lee was exceptionally good in the playoffs that year, going 4-0 with 1.56 ERA in five starts. After Lee’s impressive post-season run and knowing that they wouldn’t be able to afford him long-term, the Phillies shipped him to the Seattle Mariners as one of the key components in the three-team deal that sent Roy Halladay to Philly. With the Yankees and Rangers publicly stating their desire to land the 32-year-old left-hander, what are the Phillies chances of bringing him back to Philly?

Last week, Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt made it publicly known that he wants to be traded. The 23-22 Washington Nationals have expressed interest in acquiring Oswalt. Could the Mets once again jump into the bidding for the Houston right-hander?
