Ray Allen has buried countless opponents in the past with his deadly three point shooting. Chalk the 2011 Knicks up to his kill count. With 13 second to go, Allen nailed a three, giving the Celtics a 87-85 advantage. However, the play was definitely controversial. The Celtics used a Kevin Garnett screen**** on Toney Douglas to free up Allen. Ronny Turiaf did not rotate quick enough to defend Allen, allowing him to knock down the triple. Now, Douglas fell down on the screen**** which clearly seemed like a tripping foul. The question begs to be asked, were the Knicks robbed in Game 1?

As soon as LeBron James agreed to terms with the Miami Heat, the Knicks and Warriors completed a sign-and-trade. The Knicks signed forward David Lee to a six year, $80 million dollar contract. In turn, the Knicks flipped Lee to the Golden State Warriors for forward Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf, and Kelenna Azubuike. Of the three, the twenty-year-old Randolph has shown the most promise. The athletic 6’10” power forward averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season. Randolph should give Amar’e Stoudemire another low-post scoring option.

Ultimately, the Knicks made this trade in order to extract some value for David Lee. Lee and Stoudemire are very comparable talents, so Lee was packing his bags as soon as Amar’e agreed.

Collectively, the Knicks will be on the hook for $9.5 million next season. After the 2011 season, only Randolph’s $2 million will be on the payroll, furthering implying the Knicks will attempt to clear payroll in order to land Carmelo Anthony next summer.
