In the final game in Oakland this year for the New York Yankees, A.J. Burnett led the Yanks to a 6-2 win over the Oakland Athletics. This gives the Yankees their first road sweep of the season. With the win, the Yankees move to 53-31 on the season and remain two games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East.

The New York Yankees ended a three-game losing streak against the New York Mets, beating their crosstown rivals by a score of 5-3. Phil Hughes became the second AL pitcher to reach 10 wins on the season. Mike Pelfrey picked up the loss for the Mets while Mariano Rivera picked up his 16th save of the season. With the win, the Yankees move to 42-26 and move a half-game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays.
