The first game of the Subway Series had an exciting feel to it as the Mets edged out the Yankees, 2-1. Daniel Murphy’s sixth inning solo blast proved to be the difference in the contest. R.A. Dickey squared off against Freddy Garcia and both starters gave their respective teams quality starts. Dickey’s six innings of one-run ball topped Garcia’s seven innings of two-run ball as the Met bullpen came on to throw three perfect innings in relief. With the win, the Mets move back to .500 (22-22) while the loss snaps the Yankees three game win streak, dropping the Bombers to 23-20.
