‘Rain, Rain, Go Away’ wasn’t uttered by too many in the visitor’s dugout tonight as the Bombers won a six-inning, rain-shortened game, 6-0. Phil Hughes threw all six innings, giving up only three hits while striking out four. His velocity stayed in the mid-90s for the entire game, which was encouraging to see. It was easily his best start of the year.

Mark launched two Teix Messages (his 30th, 31st) while Russell Martin added his 11th for good measure. The Grandy Man officially joined the 20-20 club, swiping his 20th bag of the year. A 30-30 season is not out of the question.

Fun Fact:

Mark Teixeira has hit 30 home runs in eight straight seasons! Talk about consistency and it’s only August 2nd!

If this dreary weather continues into tomorrow night, we’ll be saying ‘Rain, Rain, Go Away!’

The game, which will hopefully be played, can be seen nationally on ESPN, ok.

The Baltimore Orioles took the first game in a four-game set against our New York Yankees by a score of 4-2. The complacent offense could not manage any rally off of Jeremy Guthrie, who looked like a Cy Young contender tonight. With the loss, the Yankees drop to 61-42 on the year.

The New York Yankees posted a victory over the Seattle Mariners tonight by a score of 4-1. CC Sabathia took a perfect game into the seventh inning, through two rain delays, in route to his Major League leading fifteenth victory of the season. With the win, the Yankees move to 61-40 on the season.

Talk about going from bad to worse. The Seattle Mariners dropped their 16th straight game tonight as the Yankees embarrassed the M’s, 10-3. A two-hour rain delay couldn’t slow down Freddy Garcia as he gave us 7.2 innings of three-run ball. Mark Teixeira crushed his 27th bomb and Derek Jeter added a homer of his own while droving in three runs. With the win, the Yankees move to 60-40 and currently sit 2.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox.

The New York Yankees simply destroyed the Oakland Athletics tonight by a score of 17-7. Tonight’s game was long, sloppy, hot, humid, and just an uneventful time after the Yanks put up a nine-spot in the third inning. Phil Hughes couldn’t finish five innings so Hector Noesi picked up the victory. With the win, the Yankees move to 58-39.

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees last night by a final score of 7-1. The anemic Yankee offense could only muster seven hits while leaving eight runners on base. With the loss, the Yanks drop to 53-37 on the season.

The first half is in the books and its time to take a look back. The Yanks finished the first half with a 53-35 record, a game behind the Red Sox in the division. Considering the plethora of injuries the Yankees have endured (Soriano, Joba, Hughes, Jeter, A-Rod, Chavez, Feliciano, etc.), the team has exceeded expectations in my mind. The bullpen has been successfully rebuilt, the rotation has been great, the offense is third in total runs, and the team boasts two of the three top power hitters in the AL. Time to hand out first half report cards.

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees tonight by a score of 5-1. In a game where the national spotlight turned its head towards Derek Jeter and his pursuit of 3,000 career hits, Yankee Universe watched Bartolo Colon have his worst performance of the season. With the loss, the Yankees have dropped three of their last four and move to 51-35 on the season.

The Cleveland Indians defeated the New York Yankees tonight by a score of 6-3. It was a pitchers’ duel that quickly turned into a slugging contest, a contest the Yankees rarely lose. With the loss, the Yankees have now lost two straight as their record dips to 50-33.
