We’re down to the final day of our NY SOS 2011 Prospect Profiles.

One of the most intriguing story lines for me as the Draft unfolds is how teams will view Bruce Carter of North Carolina. Entering the 2010 college football season, Carter was viewed as a sure top-15 pick – possibly top-10. Unfortunately, Carter suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on November 20th against NC State, which required reconstruction surgery on December 14. Now, his projections vary depending upon who you ask. Before the injury, Carter was a tremendously gifted, athletic, play-making linebacker; the question that now lingers is whether or not that athleticism has been compromised as a result of the injury.

We’ve already profiled a couple of linebackers so far this offseason in Lawrence Wilson (UConn) and Akeem Ayers (UCLA). Today we’ll take a closer look at another: Mason Foster out of Washington.

Foster is a player that has turned a few heads the past couple of seasons in the Huskies defense, yet he wasn’t garnering the national attention that is deserving of the way he plays the game. As the Draft approaches, though, more people are starting to take notice. I’d say it’s about time. Initially most teams graded Foster as a third or fourth-round pick. Since the season has ended, Foster has done enough to solidify a spot in everybody’s top 100, and some scouts are hailing Foster as one of, if not the most, consistent play-making linebackers in the whole draft.

Today’s Prospect Profile shifts its focus back to one of the more pressing needs on the Giants’ roster heading into April’s Draft: outside linebacker. A four-year starter at the University of Connecticut, Lawrence Wilson was one of the most productive outside linebackers in all of college football the last four seasons. His four-year totals at UConn are excellent: 449 tackles, 35.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, five interceptions, and six forced fumbles. He’s a tackling factory.

The rock and the motor of the Huskies defense for the past two seasons, some NFL teams may be turned off when looking at Wilson as he is a bit “undersized” according to scouts; but his production and intensity speak for themselves.

Let’s hit the scouting reports.

The New York Football Giants suffered through a disaster last week against Tennessee, dropping to 1-2 on the 2010 campaign. Week four is a new week, though, and with a new week comes the challenge of stopping the 3-0 Chicago Bears in the first Giants primetime game in the New Holy Land.

…But Rex Ryan sent a loud, profane message to the football world and anyone who would listen on the first episode of Hard Knocks: his Jets are the kings of New York and can beat any team, anywhere, anytime. The Giants would like to send a little message Monday night at 8:00, and take the Jets off their pedestal.
