The New York Mets were defeated by the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 in a 13 inning marathon Tuesday night. Chris Capuano pitched six innings allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out nine. The bullpen couldn’t secure a 4-3 lead in the ninth inning. The Mets offense had chances in the ninth and thirteenth innings to walk-off, but couldn’t push the envelope. In the end, the deciding run scored on a squeeze play in the top of the thirteenth. With one game remaining in the 2011 season, the Mets fall to 76-85. 

Reyes jogged around the bases twice on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets took both games of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. R.A. Dickey pitched Game One and had a no-hitter heading into the seventh inning. David Wright hit a tie-breaking double in the eighth inning to lead the Mets to a 2-1 victory. Dillon Gee took the mound in Game Two and pitched six strong innings allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out two. The Mets put up five runs in the third inning, paving the way to a 6-3 win in the night cap. They have now won three in a row as they look to finish the season strong.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Tuesday night at CitiField. Dillon Gee and Chien-Ming Wang were involved in a pitcher’s duel for the first part of the game. Gee pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five. Those two runs were scored on doubles in the sixth inning. The Mets offense struggled against the Wang and the Nationals bullpen. In the bottom of the ninth with runners on the corners and two out, down by one run, Lucas Duda struck out to end the ballgame. With the loss, the Mets currently have a four-game losing streak. 

Duda has been the run threat in the lineup post All Star Break.

The New York Mets defeated the Florida Marlins in a 7-5 victory Thursday night. Miguel Batista made an efficient spot start, pitching six innings yielding only two runs. He definitely earned another start. The Mets offense scored four runs in the third inning and three insurance runs in the eighth inning to lead them to victory. They end their homestand with a 66-69 record.

A five-run seventh inning gave them a devastating edge over the Mets. Mike Pelfrey took his eleventh loss of the season as the Mets fall to 64-69 on the year.

The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres 5-4 in extra inning fashion Monday night. The Mets began the night with two home runs in the second inning giving them a 3-0 lead. R.A. Dickey pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four. He exited the game with a 4-3 lead, in which Bobby Parnell blew in the bottom of the 8th inning. With the game tied, Scott Hairston drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning. Jason Isringhausen closed it out successfully for his 300th career save.

After 2 straight inspiring wins, the Mets played an ugly one to drop to 58-58 on the season.  R.A. Dickey took yet another home loss, and the San Diego Padres pounced on a ton of Mets mistakes to win this one.

Wow, was this a stinker — where to start with all the miscues?  2 throwing errors in the 2nd inning.  Loading the bases with none out in the 2nd and failing to score at all.  Ruben Tejada getting thrown out at home on a sac fly because he didn’t slide.  Letting the Padres execute a double steal in which the lead runner stole home.  This is one Terry Collins & Co. will surely want to forget.

After scoring a total of 9 runs over the past 5 games, the Mets banged out 16 hits and 11 runs to snap their 5-game losing streak and even the weekend series with the Atlanta Braves.  They bring their record back to .500, at 56-56.

In one of the more entertaining games they’ve played this year, the Mets’ offense broke through in a big way — every starting position player smacked at least 1 hit, and 8 different Mets crossed the plate.  They jumped out to a quick 1st inning, 2-0 lead against Braves starter Tommy Hanson thanks to Justin Turner’s solo shot and David Wright’s RBI double.  Starter Jon Niese, however, ran into trouble in the 3rd inning.  The Braves cranked out 5 hits in that inning and by the time the dust settled, the Mets were in a 5-2 hole.

Jayson Werth’s first inning homer off R.A. Dickey was all the Washington Nationals needed to snap the Mets’ 5-game winning streak — it provided all the runs scored in the game.  Dickey’s record drops to 5-9, while the team falls to 55-52.

The story of tonight’s game was Nats starter Yunesky Maya.  Jason Marquis was scheduled to start the game, but was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks shortly before game time.  That forced the Nats to call up Maya and throw him into tonight’s start.  Maya made the most of his opportunity, shutting the Mets out in his 5 1/3 innings of work.  He didn’t even allow a hit until the 4th inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds in a 4-2 victory on Monday night. The Mets offense exploded in the seventh inning, giving them team a 4-1 lead. Three of those runs were driven in with two outs. R.A. Dickey backed them up on the mound, pitching 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball. The bullpen closed the door without allowing a run to lead the Mets back to a .500 record. 

You know Wright is doing well when his tongue is sticking out.
