Carlos Zambrano pitched 6 strong innings for the Chicago Cubs (and went 3-3 at the plate with an RBI), Mets starter R.A. Dickey had to leave in the 3rd inning with an apparent foot injury, and the Cubs won in a rout.  The loss drops the Mets to 23-26 on the year.

It was a blustery day in Chicago, with the gameday temperature starting at 42 degrees.  Zambrano and Dickey traded zeroes until the top of the 3rd inning.  With one out in that inning, Jose Reyes smacked a double to right field.  Instead of just stopping at second, however, a couple of bad throws during the play allowed him to come around and score.  To quote Gary Cohen, it was a little league home run.

After a tragic loss for the Brooklyn Cyclones on Wednesday night (knocking them out of the playoffs), the 2010 Mets minor league season came to an abrupt conclusion. Each team saw both ups and downs, while some players showed movement within the organization. With a New York Mets team now looking towards the future, prospect development has been placed on the front burner. I have evaluated each squad from Triple-A Buffalo all the way down to Rookie League Kingsport below.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies 8-4 on Friday night. The Mets had the lead for a split second, but a Ryan Howard home run began a rally that would lead to another tough loss for blue and orange. They now fall to 6-7 against the Phillies this season.

Go figure. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t want the Mets to win. What do they do? They go on the road and win a series for like, the 4th time this season. I hate them more and more each day. That being said, Dickey pitched well in the matinee affair as they climb to 69-71.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs 7-6 on Friday afternoon. A terrible performance from R.A. Dickey allowed the Cubs offense to score seven runs in the middle innings. The Mets hitters couldn’t rally enough runs towards the end of the game to earn the win, falling to three games under .500, as well as one game closer to last place in the NL East division.

We are at that point in the season where Mets fans have lost all hope in 2010 and looking towards the future. The struggles of the last four seasons have really put a dent in Mets fans hearts, causing fan confidence and attendance to fall to its lowest level in recent memory. So many negative issues have haunted the team this year, and major changes must be made in order to compete in 2011 and beyond. With that said, this will probably be the most important September (without being in contention) in a long time.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves 9-3 on Monday night. They played an awful game on both sides of the spectrum, struggling to hit with runners in scoring position and losing it on the mound. They are back to under .500 for the season, and give the Atlanta Braves a larger division lead in the NL East.

Great win today. The Mets fell behind 5-0 only to chip away twice, and take the lead for good in the bottom of the 8th. It is their 2nd straight sweep at home of a division rival, as they took three from the Phillies last week and won their 8th straight game at Citi Field.
