The New York Mets took both games of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. R.A. Dickey pitched Game One and had a no-hitter heading into the seventh inning. David Wright hit a tie-breaking double in the eighth inning to lead the Mets to a 2-1 victory. Dillon Gee took the mound in Game Two and pitched six strong innings allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out two. The Mets put up five runs in the third inning, paving the way to a 6-3 win in the night cap. They have now won three in a row as they look to finish the season strong.

The Mets/Phillies game has been rained out tonight.  The makeup will be played as part of a day/night doubleheader on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for 1:10 PM on WPIX. Game two will be broadcasted on SNY at 7:10 PM. 

Game One: NYM R.A. Dickey (8-13) 3.35 ERA vs. PHI Cole Hamels (14-9) 2.80 ERA 

Game Two: NYM Dillon Gee (12-6) 4.48 ERA vs. PHI Joe Blanton (1-2) 5.30 ERA 

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves in a 7-5 win on Sunday afternoon. Dillon Gee gave up the first run of the game in the third inning on a Chipper Jones (no surprise there) double. However, the Mets bats took charge in the fourth inning putting up a four spot. Gee quickly gave away the lead when he allowed three more runs to cross in the bottom of the inning. His final line was 4 1/3 innings yielding four runs on eight hits and five walks along with four strikeouts. With the game tied in the seventh, Freddie Freeman put the Braves up a run with an RBI single. The Mets responded again with two runs in their following turn at bat for a 6-5 lead. Bobby Parnell bridged the lead to Manny Acosta, who recorded his second save of the season en route to a series win against the Braves. 

Ruben Tejada deserves the game ball for his performance today at the plate.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Tuesday night at CitiField. Dillon Gee and Chien-Ming Wang were involved in a pitcher’s duel for the first part of the game. Gee pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five. Those two runs were scored on doubles in the sixth inning. The Mets offense struggled against the Wang and the Nationals bullpen. In the bottom of the ninth with runners on the corners and two out, down by one run, Lucas Duda struck out to end the ballgame. With the loss, the Mets currently have a four-game losing streak. 

Duda has been the run threat in the lineup post All Star Break.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Monday night at CitiField. R.A. Dickey pitched seven strong innings allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and no walks while striking out seven. The bullpen went two scoreless innings in relief to give the Mets offense a chance to win it. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, both Jason Bay and Nick Evans stranded David Wright on second base to end the game. The Mets drop their third straight game as they fall to 71-76 on the season.

The New York Mets dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Game 1 was within reach for most of the game but the Mets fell short 6-5. In his major league debut, Chris Schwinden didn’t put his team in a position to win, allowing three runs right of the bat in the first inning. He went five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four. Game 2 was on the bats. They were quiet all night as the Mets mustered only seven hits. The lone run was scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Dreadful doubleheader, just dreadful.

Bay has been seeing more of the home run apple as of late.

Ryan Zimmerman hit a broken-bat, 2-run single off Bobby Parnell in the 9th to propel the Nats past the Mets.  The loss snaps the Mets’ 3-game win streak and drops them to 67-70.

The Nats looked like they had this one in the bag early.  They pounded an ineffective Dillon Gee for a 5-0 lead after 2 innings, lowlighted by opposing starter Tom Milone cracking a 3-run homer.  But the Mets got 4 back in the 4th to get themselves back in the game.  They would even take a 7-6 lead on Lucas Duda’s sac fly in the 7th, but Bobby Parnell would let it all go to waste.  He only recorded 1 out in the 9th, while allowing the winning runs to score on Zimmerman’s bloop.

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 7-3 on Friday night in D.C. The Mets offense tacked on early on a David Wright three-run homer and they never looked back. R.A. Dickey pitched six innings allowing three runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out one batter for his seventh win. The Mets have now won six of their last seven games and are only two games under .500.

The New York Mets defeated the Florida Marlins in both games of today’s double dip. Game 1 was dominated by pitching, led by R.A. Dickey, as the Mets edged the Marlins 2-1. Game 2 included a bit more offense as the Mets beat the Marlins 5-1 with a great start out of Dillon Gee. The two victories give them a four-game winning streak as they move to 64-68 on the season.
