I’ve always wanted to use that title. Anyway, the Yankees started their seven game road trip tonight with a 7-4 win against the KC Royals. Derek Jeter led the offensive charge, collecting three hits while driving in three. AJ Burnett tossed the pill tonight, picking up his ninth win with 5 2/3 innings of three run ball. It was also his first August win ever as a Yankee!

Mo came on in the ninth to notch his 31st save. With the win, the Yankees are once again tied with the Red Sox atop the AL East with matching 73-46 records!

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim defeated the New York Yankees tonight by a score of 6-4. Mariano Rivera came into the game with a tie score, but allowed a two-run homer to former Yankee Bobby Abreu. Then, with the game-winning run (Mark Teixeira) up to bat with runners on first and third in the ninth, Curtis Granderson fell for the old Jeff Nelson third-to-first play to end the game. With the terrible loss, the Yankees fall to 69-45 on the season.

Talk about going from bad to worse. The Seattle Mariners dropped their 16th straight game tonight as the Yankees embarrassed the M’s, 10-3. A two-hour rain delay couldn’t slow down Freddy Garcia as he gave us 7.2 innings of three-run ball. Mark Teixeira crushed his 27th bomb and Derek Jeter added a homer of his own while droving in three runs. With the win, the Yankees move to 60-40 and currently sit 2.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox.

The New York Yankees simply destroyed the Oakland Athletics tonight by a score of 17-7. Tonight’s game was long, sloppy, hot, humid, and just an uneventful time after the Yanks put up a nine-spot in the third inning. Phil Hughes couldn’t finish five innings so Hector Noesi picked up the victory. With the win, the Yankees move to 58-39.

Tonight’s pitching match-up lived up to expectations as James Shields and CC Sabathia once again squared off. Both pitchers gave their teams 7+ innings of strong starting pitching. However, Shields was a little bit better tonight as his Rays topped the Yanks, 2-1. With tonight’s defeat, Sabathia lost his first game in eight starts. With the loss, the Yanks fall to 57-39 and finish their eight game roadie at 4-4. The Rays proved tonight that they’ll be sticking around, as they trail the Yanks by only 5.5 games in the AL Wildcard race.
