The Yankees added free-agent lefty reliever, Pedro Feliciano this week. Feliciano agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal a club option for 2013. Feliciano joins the Bombers after spending the five previous seasons with the Mets. Over the last three seasons, Feliciano has led the league in appearances (86, 88, and 92, respectively). Feliciano held lefties to a .211 BAA in 2010, but was not good against righties (.337). After facing Chase Utley and Ryan Howard for half of a decade, Feliciano should help contain Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford.

Normally, I don’t like multi-year deals for relievers, especially relievers that have a lot of millage on their arms. However, Joe Girardi will not tax his bullpen like Jerry Manuel did. With Damaso Marte unlikely to pitch for the majority of the 2011 season, the Yankees needed a second reliever to go along with Boone Logan.

While the addition of Feliciano is good for the Yankees, Zack Greinke has been dealt to the Milwaukee Brewers. Greinke, the 2009 Cy Young Award winner, recently demanded a trade from the Royals. The Royals and Nationals apparently agreed to a deal, but Greinke had the Nationals on his ‘No Trade’ list. The Brewers came in last night, made a deal, and the young righty agreed to call Miller Park home.

Greinke apparently would have accepted a deal to the Yankees, but the Yankees never got close with an offer.

While many of us believed that Greinke simply wasn’t a fit, another top pitching option is off the board. Let’s see what the Yankees will do to strengthen their rotation.

Yankee fans, are you sad to see Greinke come off the board?

With the 2010 Major League Baseball season more than halfway over and the most boring sports day of the year upon us, I figured I’d hand out a midterm report card to the New York Yankees. Professor Poedubicky plays no favorites, and isn’t afraid to tell his pupils if they need to be more productive…

Considering the starting time (9:40 EST) and the game length (4:07), the contest between the Yankees and the Diamondbacks was a real snoozer. However, the Yankee fans who managed to stay up to catch the tenth inning caught a real treat, seeing a go-ahead home run and a vintage Mariano Rivera performance. In the rubber game of a three-game set, the New York Yankees squeezed by the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 6-5. Mo picked up the win for the Yanks as they move to 45-27 on the season.

The New York Yankees have parted ways with seven members of the 2009 World Series Championship roster. Can you name the seven? Some were heroes, some were just okay, and some were role players that were necessary to win a championship. We’ll review what those seven have been up to since they left the Bombers to play elsewhere. Also, we’ll guess where they’d fit in if they came back to play for the Yankees in 2010.
