Dillon Gee won his 11th game, David Wright hit a 3-run homer to open the scoring, and the Mets won Wednesday’s rubber game in San Diego.  The win bumps their record to 60-63.

This game was mainly about the aforementioned 2 players, Gee and Wright.  While Wright only went 1-5 on the day, the one hit was a huge one — he broke a scoreless tie in the 3rd inning with his 3-run blast and gave Gee a nice, early cushion to work with in spacious Petco.  He also made a great play in the 4th inning in which he faked out Cameron Maybin at third — Maybin rounded third as Wright faked throwing to first, and he was able to tag him out to end the inning.

As for Gee, it was a nice bounceback start after a string of lackluster ones.  Due to the afternoon start time in San Diego, Gee was able to work the shadows to his advantage, only allowing one run in his 6 2/3 innings of work.  He made a spectacular play himself – on a backhanded stab on a ground ball up the middle, which he converted into an inning-ending double play.  After he exited the game with a 4-1 lead, the Mets tacked on 3 more runs in the 8th to put this one out of reach.

The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres 5-4 in extra inning fashion Monday night. The Mets began the night with two home runs in the second inning giving them a 3-0 lead. R.A. Dickey pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four. He exited the game with a 4-3 lead, in which Bobby Parnell blew in the bottom of the 8th inning. With the game tied, Scott Hairston drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning. Jason Isringhausen closed it out successfully for his 300th career save.

D.J Carrasco served up a go-ahead 3-run homer to Ryan Roberts to propel the Arizona Diamondbacks to a comeback win.  The loss now drops the Mets to 3 games below .500, at 58-61.  They have now dropped 4 in a row and have a 3-10 record over their past 13 games.

This game was a snapshot of two teams going in opposite directions.  The upstart D-Backs, first place in their division, won their 33rd game this season in which they’ve come from behind.  The Mets, however, continue their summer slide out of contention.  Mike Pelfrey had his good stuff working today — after spotting the D-Backs 2 runs in the first, he allowed 2 hits and no earned runs the rest of the way.  Unfortunately, he had to leave in the 5th inning after being struck in the arm by a line drive.  In came Carrasco, and there went the game.  After hitting Willie Bloomquist with a pitch, he gave the 3-run blast to Roberts that turned a 4-2 Mets lead into a 5-4 deficit.  The dog days of summer are definitely here.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 4-3 loss Friday night. The bats couldn’t mess with ex-Yankee Ian Kennedy’s stuff. Jason Bay’s three-hit night was a waste as the Mets lose their third straight game. Dillon Gee struggled with the big inning again, resulting in his fourth loss of the season.

Watching the home run trot isn't new for Gee these days.

After 2 straight inspiring wins, the Mets played an ugly one to drop to 58-58 on the season.  R.A. Dickey took yet another home loss, and the San Diego Padres pounced on a ton of Mets mistakes to win this one.

Wow, was this a stinker — where to start with all the miscues?  2 throwing errors in the 2nd inning.  Loading the bases with none out in the 2nd and failing to score at all.  Ruben Tejada getting thrown out at home on a sac fly because he didn’t slide.  Letting the Padres execute a double steal in which the lead runner stole home.  This is one Terry Collins & Co. will surely want to forget.

The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres in walk-off fashion on Monday night. With runners on second and third and one out, Lucas Duda singled in the tying and winning runs to put the Mets over the Padres 9-8. The rally came against ex-Met Heath Bell, who had also given up an RBI single to David Wright. The Mets currently sit at 57-57 on the season with the victory.

After scoring a total of 9 runs over the past 5 games, the Mets banged out 16 hits and 11 runs to snap their 5-game losing streak and even the weekend series with the Atlanta Braves.  They bring their record back to .500, at 56-56.

In one of the more entertaining games they’ve played this year, the Mets’ offense broke through in a big way — every starting position player smacked at least 1 hit, and 8 different Mets crossed the plate.  They jumped out to a quick 1st inning, 2-0 lead against Braves starter Tommy Hanson thanks to Justin Turner’s solo shot and David Wright’s RBI double.  Starter Jon Niese, however, ran into trouble in the 3rd inning.  The Braves cranked out 5 hits in that inning and by the time the dust settled, the Mets were in a 5-2 hole.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Florida Marlins in late-inning fashion, as a poorly executed defensive play led to two runs scoring in the top of the ninth inning. Justin Turner wasted a solid start out of Chris Capuano by botching a throw to first base with the bases loaded and one out. Capuano pitched six innings allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five. This is the third consecutive game the Mets have endured a loss in the ninth inning or later, as they fall back to .500 at 55-55 on the season.

Mike Stanton crushed a grand slam in the 10th inning off Jason Isringhausen to send the Mets to their 3rd straight loss.  This is their second loss in a row in which a 2-out homer in the 9th tied the game for them.  The Mets now drop to 55-54.

Yet another tough loss for the Mets.  They had done nothing against Marlins pitching all game, mustering only 1 run through the first 8 2/3 innings of the game.  Mike Pelfrey grinded through his 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 of them earned).  It looked like the Mets were going to lose the game 3-1.  But with 2 outs and Angel Pagan on second, Lucas Duda crushed his third homer of the year to send the game to extras.

Jayson Werth’s first inning homer off R.A. Dickey was all the Washington Nationals needed to snap the Mets’ 5-game winning streak — it provided all the runs scored in the game.  Dickey’s record drops to 5-9, while the team falls to 55-52.

The story of tonight’s game was Nats starter Yunesky Maya.  Jason Marquis was scheduled to start the game, but was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks shortly before game time.  That forced the Nats to call up Maya and throw him into tonight’s start.  Maya made the most of his opportunity, shutting the Mets out in his 5 1/3 innings of work.  He didn’t even allow a hit until the 4th inning.
