Andrew McCutchen hit a tie-breaking double off R.A. Dickey in the 3rd inning to propel the Pirates to a win Saturday night. Dickey took another hard-luck loss to fall to 3-7, while the Mets’ overall record drops to 31-33.
The Mets had their chances against James McDonald — they scratched out 8 hits and 3 walks against him. However, he was able to hang on on for the win while only surrendering 2 runs. The Mets jumped on the board first, when Daniel Murphy grounded into a fielder’s choice that drove in Ruben Tejada before the Bucs came to bat. However, Pittsburgh answered back in the second ininng thanks to a Garrett Jones double that plated Neil Walker. After McCutchen’s 2-run double in the 3rd inning (which should have been ruled an error), both sides’ bats were shut out (aside from Carlos Beltran’s RBI-infield single to bring the deficit to 3-2).
