Once upon a time, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights were an 11-3 team that looked like it had the ability to get into the NCAA Tournament. However, they have since lost five out of six and four in a row, and they badly need to sweep these next three games in Piscataway starting with the visit from the Louisville Cardinals on Wednesday night.
The NCAA basketball betting lines are going to feature the Scarlet Knights as heavy underdogs in this game, though the number won’t be quite as bad thanks to the fact that Louisville has been struggling as well. The Cards only finally snapped a four-game ATS skid when they knocked off the Marquette Golden Eagles by 19 points over the weekend at the KFC Yum! Arena.
The real question in this game is going to be whether Rutgers can figure out how to score against the stout Cardinals’ defense. Louisville is conceding just 57.6 points per game this year, and clubs are shooting only 39.9 percent from the field against it. The Scarlet Knights have failed to score more than 60 points in three straight games.
Interestingly enough, the Scarlet Knights’ top two scorers, G Eli Carter and G Myles Mack both come off of a very deep bench. They have a legitimate nine players in their rotation, and they are going to have to use all nine effectively to win this game.
Rutgers has another big problem in this game, and that’s its all-time history in this series. These two have met six times since the 2007-08 season, and the Scarlet Knights have lost all six times SU and five of the six from an ATS standpoint. There have been some ugly results, including here in Piscataway. The most recent meeting in the Garden State ended with a 55-37 win for the visiting Cardinals.
