While Moving to New York can be a stressful process, there are ten professional sports teams where you can unwind and then get worked up all over again. The Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders, Devils and Red Bulls compromise the New York metropolitan area sports demographic.
Currently, the Yankees are in first place of the American League East while the Mets are looking to build towards 2013. Once you are finally settled into your new home, I highly encourage attending either a Yankee or Met game before the season ends.
While the Yankees are enjoying success, the Giants are preparing to defend their Super Bowl crown. On Wednesday, September 5th, the Giants will kick off the 2012 NFL season at home against the Dallas Cowboys. On Sunday, September 9th, the Jets will kick off their season at home against the Buffalo Bills. Expectations are extremely high for bothNew York football teams andNew York is a city that loves its football teams.
After a disappointing playoff showing against the Miami Heat, the New York Knicks will look to rebound this season. Led by Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks will attempt to defend their home turf against the Brooklyn Nets. The Brooklyn Nets spent this off-season retooling their roster, trading for swingman, Joe Johnson and re-signing point guard, Deron Williams. The Knicks and Nets play their first game in Brooklynon November 1st, a game that New Yorkers will not miss.
Despite winning the Eastern Conference championship, the New Jersey Devils fell short in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Los Angeles Kings. New Jersey’s best player, Zach Parise, left via free agency, but the Devils still have one of the league’s best teams. After the Devils defeated the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Rangers wasted little time, trading for star wing, Rick Nash. The Rangers will bring back an impressive young core of players and the league’s top goalie, Henrik Lundqvist. Finally, the New York Islanders have a promising young trio led by center, John Tavares. Look for Tavares to take the next step in his maturation this season.
The New York Red Bulls are putting up a strong showing in this season’s MLS. Sitting in second place in the Easterrn Conference with nine games to go in the regular season. The Red Bulls forward act consisting of French legend Thierry Henry andUSinternational Kenny Cooper is one of the most potent in the league and there’s a good chance they’ll move ahead of Sporting Kansas City to finish this season as champions. Five of the Red Bulls’s remaining league fixtures are at home, so there’s still a chance to catch a game before the season reaches its climax.
While moving toNew Yorkcan seem like a stressful process, the city contains ten great professional sports teams. Once you are settled, be sure to check out a game at one of the city’s venues. You will not regret it.
