It’s a fight for supremacy in New York as the Giants and Jets square off in week two of the preseason.
Neither team won their exhibition opener, with the Giants losing a close one to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Jets dropping a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
We can expect a little more action for both sets of starters now that we’ve reached the second week.
For the Giants, that starts with Eli Manning, who’s the clear-cut starter at quarterback after leading his team to another Super Bowl title last season.
There are more question marks at running back though. Ahmad Bradshaw is the number one on the depth chart, but rookie David Wilson has looked sharp in camp (and in the first preseason game) and could steal away some carries. Wilson should get plenty of work in this matchup against the Jets.
The Jets will give Mark Sanchez a little run, as well as Tim Tebow of course. That quarterback situation will garner plenty of interest throughout the season, even in the preseason, and Tebow will get his chance to prove his worth.
Tebow completed 4 of 8 passes in the opener and added 34 yards on four rushes, but he did throw an interception in the defeat against the Bengals. As for Sanchez, he was 4 of 6 for 21 yards.
The NFL odds will be close for this game between city rivals, but we’d lean towards picking the Jets to win. They’ve got playmakers like Joe McKnight and Stephen Hill that will get plenty of playing time and also have Tebow there to take over the offense once Sanchez is done for the day.
It’s going to be an interesting battle between Rex Ryan and Tom Coughlin, but we think the Jets may be the right play in week two.
