The city of New York is revving up for an awesome four-game series for their beloved Yankees against Josh Hamilton and the hard-hitting Texas Rangers.
Having won four of their last five, spirits are high right now for the Bronx Bombers. They head back to Yankee Stadium with renewed confidence, and they’ll need it against the Rangers.
The Yankees have been dealing with injuries all season long, with key guys like CC Sabathia, Mariano Rivera (who’s still out), Alex Rodriguez (ditto) spending considerable time on the sidelines. They have Sabathia out of action right now, meaning David Phelps will get a spot start to open up the series against Texas.
He’ll be trying to out-duel Ryan Dempster, recently acquired by the Rangers.
There’s a buzz around New York for the start of the NFL season, with the Giants and Jets battling it out for the best team moniker of the city. There’s also plenty of excitement in town about the Yankees, who continue to rack up victories in spite of injuries. The MLB odds have them favored almost nightly and for good reason.
The Yanks haven’t had to deal with any health issues for Hiroki Kuroda, who’s been solid as a rock this season. He’ll need to be at his best again versus the Rangers.
Wednesday sees veteran Freddy Garcia pitching for New York. He’s allowed three or fewer runs in four straight starts, lowering his ERA from 6.39 to 4.85 over the last six weeks.
Finally, New York fans put their faith in beloved pitcher Ivan Nova. Nova went through a rough time against Baltimore and then Detroit, but then rebounded with a much better outing in Toronto against the Blue Jays.
Yankees fans will come out in droves for this series and it will be a great chance for the home team to prove they’re not going anywhere. Will New York fans be dancing in the streets after this four-game set ends?
