The Yankees head to the West Coast later this week to begin a four-game set in Oakland against the Athletics. No doubt it’ll be a tough series but New York’s excelling right now and should be a solid option with your free MLB picks.
After wrapping up a six-game home stand, first against the Angels and most recently against the Blue Jays, the Yankees will try their luck in Oakland.
In the first game of the series they’ll have Freddy Garcia on the mound. He picked up his fourth win of the season in his latest start, a 5-3 victory over the Angels.
Garcia’s been even better on the road than he has at Yankee Stadium, going 2-0 with a 3.91 ERA in four starts. Compare that to his 2-2 win-loss record and 6.75 ERA and you can see why we’re liking the chances of the Yankees grabbing the first game.
It only gets better from there though as the Yankees then hand the ball over to Ivan Nova, who leads the team with 10 wins. He did lose to the Angels over the weekend but perhaps getting out on the road, where he’s 7-1 with a 3.36 ERA.
Game three on Saturday sees Phil Hughes get the call before the series wraps on Sunday with a terrific matchup.
C.C. Sabathia is set to return from his DL stint to close out this four-game set. Before getting hurt he was 9-3 with a 3.45 ERA and enters Sunday having won four of his last six starts. New York fans surely can’t wait to see their ace back and at it again.
West coast swings are always an interesting proposition for teams like the Yankees, but if any team can handle it it’s the Bronx Bombers.
