What’s up with the G-Men this week? Training camp and preseason are still some ways away and all thoughts of winning NFL picks are on ice, however, in this article, I am going to take a look at two crucial Giants, who could either eclipse their performances from last season, or fall back down the hill a little.
Starting with a guy who caught a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl last season, Victor Cruz is gearing up for another run at the coveted bowl. Cruz blasted on the scene last season, and although he basically didn’t play in New York’s first two games, he still finished with 1536 yards and 9 touchdowns on 82 receptions. He only fumbled once all season, and he had an incredible 595 yards after the catch.
Cruz now will have to deal with much more coverage on his side of the field, especially because the Giants lost some guys in their receiving core. However, I fully expect another great season from Cruz. If he is healthy, Hakeem Nicks should take some of the pressure off of him. The other Giant that could match or exceed his play from last year is Eli Manning. Manning won his second Super Bowl and during the season threw for almost 5000 yards, with 29 touchdowns, a 61% completion rate, and only 16 interceptions.
While it will be hard for Eli to beat those numbers, I think he can and will. The Giants will still have to throw the ball a lot, and their defense hasn’t improved enough where they will be running the ball a whole lot more. Plus, they lost one of their main running backs to free agency. I think a 5000 yards and 30 touchdown season will be in order for Eli this season.
