What are the defending champs up to this offseason? Well, there have been some moves and shakes around the Super Bowl champs. Will the NFL fan base take the Giants as repeat candidates with their NFL odds? Or, will another NFC team take the crown away from the city of New York, just like that?
Some updated news on the status of Hakeem Nicks has surfaced early this week, and while the news is rather the same that it was a few months ago, it is still good news. Nicks broke his foot earlier in the spring, and now is faced with assuring Giants’ fans and the front office that he will be ready to go by the time training camp rolls around next month.
Now, this is all good and well, but the Giants will be taking no risks with their best receiver. After losing a lot of their offensive weapons after the Super Bowl win, Nicks and Victor Cruz are basically all the Giants have to catch Eli’s passes. As long as Nicks is ready for a few snaps in the preseason, and the season opener against the Cowboys, I think the Giants will be happy.
Some other personnel news for Giants fans is the situation with veteran linebacker Michael Boley. Boley has played outside linebacker throughout his career, and the team has interests in shifting him to the middle, a position that needs a body. Boley has made it clear that although he wouldn’t mind the shift, it isn’t in the cards right now. This might be a move the Giants make closer to the regular season, or even during the season.
