The Finals for Lord Stanley’s Cup are finally set and the NHL picks are on Kings side. While the 8th seeded Kings all but ran through the Western Conference Finals, the Devils had a hard fought battle with the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Neither of these teams had home ice advantage thus far, but now  stand four wins away from hoisting the Cup. That’s how much home ice means in hockey.

After Los Angeles’ historic run through the West, they have found themselves as the favorites to win the Cup over the Devils. However, these two teams have some of the best goaltending in the NHL. In Game 1, the Kings are also favored, but now by much.

Martin Brodeur and Jonathon Quick were two of the hottest goalies in the playoffs. Quick is 12-2 in the playoffs with only 1.54 GAA and a .946 save percentage. The aging veteran Brodeur on the other hand is 12-5 in the playoffs this season, with a 2.04 GAA, and a .923 save percentage.

While the Kings seem to have the advantage in the net, the Devils arguably have the best player not wearing a mask, Ilya Kovalchuk. The young left-winger from Russia has 7 postseason goals along with 11 assists in 17 playoff games. He had five points in the final three games of the East Finals and he is leading the NHL in playoff scoring.

If Kovalchuk can outduel Quick, the Devils will finally put the Cinderella Kings to sleep. However, Quick has been a force this postseason, as he has two shutouts in the playoffs.  He has allowed no more than eight playoff goals in a series this season.
