Cheesesteaks. Rocky Balboa. The Liberty Bell.

None of these things will be on the minds of Giants players when they take the field on Sunday in Philly. The Gaints (1-1) are coming off a Monday Night home win agaisnt the Rams while the Eagles lost to the Falcons in Atlanta. Both teams walked away with some key injuries after Week 2. Michael Vick and Mario Manningham both left the game with concussions, but Vick is expected to start. With the Eagles coming in as 7.5 favorites, can the Giants pull the upset?

Stop. Michael. VIck.

3 Keys for the Giants

1. Pound the Rock: The Giants ran for 119 yards in their Week 2 win. Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs toted the rock 29 times compared to just 16 times in Week 1. The Eagles gave way to 138 rushing yards in their Week 2 loss. The best way to defend Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson, and LeSean McCoy is just keep them off the field. The Giants must control the line of scrimmage and create first downs with the run game.

2. Stop the Rock: The combination of Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy have averaged 185 yards per gameĀ on the ground so far. The Giants did a good job against Cadillac Williams last week, holding him to 36 yards. With Vick coming off an injury, expect the Giants to get up the field and put pressure on the controversial QB.

3. Stop The Big Play: Visions of DeSean Jackson’s game winning punt return still haunt Giants fans. So far, the Giants have given up several big plays (25 yards or more). Sam Bradford had three throws of 25 yards or more last week. With Jackson and Jeremy Maclin stretching the field, expect Vick to get the ball downfield to his big play threats. The Giants secondary is dinged so this could be a huge issue.

Game Prediction:

With Manningham and Osi still out, the Giants are lacking two of their better players. The Giants receiving group is limited to Hakeem Nicks and everybody else. Nnamdi Asoughma will be on Nicks so the Giant passing game may be non-existant. Once again, the Giants must successfully run the ball and stop the big play.

Coming off a short week and going on the road for a divisional game, I don’t see a win for the Giants this week. Vick is going to be a huge problem and DeSean Jackson will likely get loose once or twice for a score.
