Mariano Rivera broke Trevor Hoffman’s all-time save record this afternoon. Is it a big deal to me? No, not really. I know, you know, and everyone else knows that Mariano is the best ever.

Congrats!!!---AP Photo

He just lays claim to another record to his ever growing list of accomplishments. Rivera’s 602rd career save solidified the Yankees 92nd win of the year. With the win and the Red Sox loss, the Yankees sit six games ahead of Boston in the loss column with ten games to go. After the jump, I will berate, A-Joke Burnett.

A-Joke Burnett is lucky that Mariano’s heroics stole the show today because he turned in another stinker. Burnett lasted only four innings, giving way to four runs on nine hits. Mind you, Michael Cuddyer was the only respectable hitter the Twins rolled out today. AJ CANNOT PITCH AND CANNOT EVEN BEAT A TWIN TEAM FULL OF MINOR LEAGUERS! Burnett has two starts left this season and neither one will come in the post-season. Luckily, the Yankee bullpen is strong and threw five scoreless innings.

Offensively, The Grandy Man hit his 41st bomb and the Captain had three hits. The Yankee offense pounded Twin pitching for 15 hits, so the main guys all got a piece of the action.

What’s Next?: The surging Tampa Bay Rays will come to New York for a four-game set starting tomorrow night. Let’s get this whole clinching a playoff spot thing over.

Tuesday, 7:05 PM: Wade Davis (10-9, 4.41 ERA) vs. Ivan Nova (15-4, 3.81 ERA)
