The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees tonight by a final score of 5-4. It seems like the Yankees have made a bad habit of losing one run games late recently, so hopefully this slide will end in late September, when the Yankees will be preparing for a late-season run at the World Series while the Mets are making tee times in St. Petersburg.

Thankfully, I don’t think we’re going to have to worry about CC Sabathia pitching on an extra day’s worth of rest in the playoffs. Quite frankly, he hasn’t been very good at it over the past few months. He gave up one huge hit, a bases-clearing double to Adam Lind, which really made his line look a lot worse than it was. Still, two weeks from tonight, we will see him taking the mound in Game #1 of the ALDS.

The Yankee offense was somewhat stagnant tonight, as Nick Swisher collected two hits for two RBI and Eric Chavez hit a two-run homer. As the game carried on, David Robertson (of course) got out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning. It seems like he does that every time he’s out there, but as long as he can keep bailing himself out, I honestly don’t mind. The same luck, however, was not to be had by Boone Logan. Boone gave up a walk-off hit to former Yank Jose Molina to end the game in the bottom of the ninth.

What’s Next?

Afternoon game tomorrow beginning at 1:07. Tune in to see Bartolo Colon go for the Yankees on the YES Network.
