For the second straight night, the Mets took a 4-3 lead into the 9th. For the second straight night, their closer blew the save. This time, however, they didn’t emerge with the “W.” Aramis Ramirez played the hero in this one, singling in the tying and winning runs with 2 outs, off Bobby Parnell. His 5th blown save on the year drops the Mets to 71-74. The Mets’ bats showed their usual late-game fight in this one: down 3-0 in the 8th, they scored 4 to stake Parnell to the lead. Unfortunately, he’s got a little way to go before he earns the right to be called their closer.
-Chris Capuano: Allowed only 1 run in his 7 innings of work.
-Jason Bay: 2 hits, including what would have been the winning runs in the 8th. He’s hitting .353 for the month so far.
-Jose Reyes: Extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
-Defense: 4 errors today. 4 of ‘em. Including one by David Wright that kick-started the Cubs’ 9th inning rally.
-Angel Pagan: The only Mets position starter without a hit on the day.
-Bobby Parnell: No, the runs weren’t earned, but he still didn’t look good in the 9th. Let’s hope that these are just growing pains that he will overcome.
On Deck: Rubber game tomorrow night, 8:10 PM.
