The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 5-4 in a rainy extra innings affair this afternoon. AJ Burnett did fine but was never given the opportunity to win today, what with last night’s game ending at 2 AM and the AAA-quality lineup put out on the field today.

After last night’s game ended at 2 AM, the Yankees decided to rest Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, Robinson Cano, and Curtis Granderson. Therefore, there were very few regulars in their familiar places in the lineup. When AJ Burnett walked into the clubhouse and saw the irregular lineup, I can only imagine the expletives that filled his mind.

Anyway, the rain poured today, much like last night. However, due to the lack of time left in the season, the show went on. The game was tied up early, and as opportunities arose to win the game, Joe Girardi unloaded his bench to bring in pinch hitters to win the game, but it never happened. In extras, Mark Reynolds, the Baltimore third baseman who struck out four times prior, hit the game winning single off of Hector Noesi.

What’s Next?

Same teams, same time, different city tomorrow. The Yankees play the Orioles once in Baltimore before flying out west for the last time this year.
