To paraphrase, Ivan Nova was stupid good today. He started off by not allowing a hit through three innings. Then, what could have been chaos occurred. With Jim Thome on first, Danny Valencia hit a lazy fly to dead right-center. It was so close to the middle of Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher that neither one of them got it, and the Twins ended up on second and third with no outs. Nova, seemingly oblivious to the shenanigans in the outfield, pitched a strikeout, another strikeout, and forced a ground out to first to end the inning and the only real threat he had faced. David Robertson successfully navigated his way through some bases loaded trouble, and Mariano Rivera auto-pitched his way through three helpless Twins.

The play of the game definitely came from the aforementioned Curtis Granderson. His sixth inning inside-the-park home run was a combination of the perfect hit, along with terrible defense of the Minnesota outfielders; they ran to the wall to watch it roll about 50 feet back towards in infield. Still, watching Curtis fly around the bases was fun to watch. With that homer and Mark Teixeira’s in the seventh, the duo has now hit 35 and 34 home runs this season, respectively.
