The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers 6-1 on Friday night. Mike Pelfrey struggled through five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and four walks while striking out four. Outside of Angel Pagan and Ruben Tejada, the Mets offense was idle against Shaun Marcum et al. The loss currently puts the Mets at a 60-64 record for the season.

My Reaction:

Angel Pagan is the star of the game, for sure. The centerfielder had three hits, including two for doubles. Due to a poor effort on the Mets offensive front, he did not factor into the scoring. Pagan has been red hot over the month of August, raising his batting average from .239 to .261 in just a couple of weeks. This will be a decisive stretch for him, as the team needs to determine whether he should be considered an option in the outfield for the 2012 season. At this point, I think it is anyone’s guess as to what happens; however, if he continues to hit like he has been, they will most likely give him a shot.

Interesting Facts:

  • Mike Pelfrey has not won a game since a July 27th complete game against the Cincinnati Reds.
  • The Mets 2 through 5 hitters combined to go 0 for 14. You know you’re in for a rough night when Mike Baxter is batting fifth in the order.

What’s Next?: The New York Mets look for an offensive spark against the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday afternoon. Game Time 4:10 PM on FOX.
