After two winless starts, CC Sabathia was able to get back to his winning ways on Thursday night. Sabathia struck out nine over seven innings to pace the Bombers to a 8-4 victory. The offensive power was supplied by Teix, Swishy, and Andruw as each player clubbed a home run. The Red Sox won tonight, so the Yankees only remain a half game ahead in the AL East race.

At least they got this one right

Controversy always seems to follow the Yankees. After last night’s blown home run call in Kansas City, controversy wasted little time, rearing its ugly head in the first inning. Justin Morneau hit a ball down the right field line that was foul, but was ruled initially as a homer. After the umps convened, it was ruled a foul ball. Ron Gardenhire hit the showers early after protesting, but hey, he did the right thing. As a Yankee fan, it feels good to get a little redemption after last night.

Anyway, I can’t really say enough about CC’s importance to this team. He has watched his strikeout numbers jump up, posting a K/9 around 9.00. He is on pace for 23 wins and 244 strikeouts. The dude is good.

For the offense, it’s always nice when your #2 and #3 hitters are tops in homers and RBIs. Teix added his 33rd bomb of the year (one behind the Grandy Man). Swish and Andruw went back-to-back in the fifth.

Fun fact: The Yanks are 20-3 against the Twins over the last three years.

Same two teams tomorrow night

Friday, 8:10PM: Phil Hughes (3-4, 6.55 ERA) vs. Kevin Slowey (0-0, 4.91 ERA)
