I’ve always wanted to use that title. Anyway, the Yankees started their seven game road trip tonight with a 7-4 win against the KC Royals. Derek Jeter led the offensive charge, collecting three hits while driving in three. AJ Burnett tossed the pill tonight, picking up his ninth win with 5 2/3 innings of three run ball. It was also his first August win ever as a Yankee!

Mo came on in the ninth to notch his 31st save. With the win, the Yankees are once again tied with the Red Sox atop the AL East with matching 73-46 records!

Really for the first time all season long, I didn’t have to listen to this great sound bite after an AJ start. AJ wasn’t great by any stretch (gave up 10 hits), but he kept his team in the game.

AJ should thank his bullpen, who gave him 3.1 innings of one-run ball. The only hiccup came when the Melk Man delivered an RBI double off of Soriano in the seventh. Hey, it was Monday and the Melk Man normally starts his deliveries on Mondays. No harm, no foul.

Don’t look now, but Mr. Jeter’s batting average is slowly starting to climb back up to respectability. He went 3 for 4 tonight, boosting his average to .283. Outside of Jeter, Gardy, Cano, and Swish all had multi-hit games. Good first win of the seven game roadie.

Same two teams tomorrow night.

Tuesday, 8:10 PM: Ivan Nover (11-4, 3.85 ERA) vs. Danny Duffy (What a name, 3-6, 4.97)
