The New York Yankees helped us forget what happened in last night’s ugly affair as they beat up the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim by a score of 9-3. Curtis Granderson smacked two home runs and Robinson Cano finished a single short of the cycle as Ivan Nova picked up his 11th win of the season. With the win, the Yankees are now 70-45 on the season.

Well, this quickly made me forget about last night - AP

As of now, it’s pretty hard to make an argument for anyone besides Ivan Nova to be the #2 pitcher for the Yankees. He pounded the zone with first-pitch strikes, and kept his pitch count low. Out of the 18 outs he recorded, 14 were via the ground ball – something that will be a necessity in a playoff series in Yankee Stadium or the Ballpark at Arlington.

Curtis Granderson welcomed spot-starter Garrett Richards to the big leagues appropriately, hitting a three-run home run off the top of the right-center field wall in the first and hitting a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth. With the home run, the Grandy Man has now hit 31, which is a new career high. He also becomes the first Yankee centerfielder to hit 30 since the late Bobby Murcer did it in 1972. Richards left the ball up in the zone often tonight, as the Yankees clubbed three other extra-base hits in his five innings.

What’s Next?

The Yankees finish off the Angels tomorrow in a matinee performance. A series win will likely finish off the Angels with regards to the wild card.
