The New York Yankees posted a victory over the Seattle Mariners tonight by a score of 4-1. CC Sabathia took a perfect game into the seventh inning, through two rain delays, in route to his Major League leading fifteenth victory of the season. With the win, the Yankees move to 61-40 on the season.

Three stories of today’s game: The Seattle Mariners losing their 17th consecutive game, the multiple rain delays, and CC Sabathia’s almost perfect pitching. As for the Seattle Mariners, it’s just a sad sight. Granted, CC had an awesome game (more on that later), but they could not get anything done until Brendan Ryan broke up CC’s perfect game in the top of the seventh.

As for the weather, I really think it messed with CC tonight, even though you wouldn’t have noticed for 19 batters. He made it through two rain delays which only lasted a total of 44 minutes, but it was still enough to mess with his rhythm, although slightly. In 7+ innings, he allowed four baserunners (the one hit, and three walks after the second delay) while striking out a career high 14. CC simply rode the 28th home runs of the year by Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira to the finish line, while David Robertson and Mariano Rivera finished the game.

What’s Next?

The Yankees look to go for the series sweep in a matinee performance tomorrow. I kinda hope the poor Mariners win a game to avoid losing their 18th straight game.
