John Buck hit a go-ahead, pinch-hit double in the bottom of the 8th to help the Marlins sink the Mets in Sunday’s rubber game.  Bobby Parnell took the loss, and the Mets now slip under the .500 mark at 50-51.

It was a back-and-forth game that saw neither starting pitcher distinguish himself in the sweltering heat.  Both teams traded single runs in the first inning, with their catalysts (Jose Reyes and Emilio Bonifacio) jumpstarting the rallies.  Heading into the 7th inning, the Mets were down 3-2, but with 2 outs, got some much needed power from a key source.  David Wright hit a 2-run shot over the left field wall to give the Mets a 4-3 lead — his first since coming off the DL.

Unfortunately, the Marlins didn’t go quietly.  Logan Morrison hit a solo shot to tie the game, and then (taking a page out of the Mets’ book) Buck hit his 2-out pinch-hit game-winner to send the Marlins fans home happy.  Well, all 60 of them.

3 Up:

-David Wright: A 3-4 day, including his dramatic 2-run shot.  He now has multiple RBIs in each game since returning.

-Emilio Bonifacio: Gotta give credit where it’s due.  When a guy with that much speed hits in 23 straight games, the Marlins’ lineup can get scary.

Manny Acosta: 2 perfect innings and was in line for the win.

3 Down:

-Bobby Parnell: His uneven season continues.  This is the third straight outing in which he’s allowed a run.

-Defense: A sloppy defensive game for the Mets, with 2 official errors, but more general miscues.

-Clutch Hitting: The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position.

On Deck: The Mets’ road trip continues with a 3-game set in Cincinnati.
