The New York Mets edged the Florida Marlins in a 7-6 victory on Friday night. David Wright’s return was a great success and led the Mets team in a 12-hit marathon. Mike Pelfrey turned in another horrid outing allowing four runs on five hits and four walks in six innings , but the bullpen was good enough to help them win the game. The Mets have now won 50 games this season.

David Wright excelled in what felt like his second opening day of the season.

My Reaction:

David Wright finally made his return to the lineup tonight. He went 2 for 5, with two doubles, two rbis, and two runs scored. Wright is such a big part of the Mets future. He is the face of the franchise, regardless of what anyone else says. He may not be as exciting as Jose Reyes, but you know what to expect out of him year in and year out. Wright looked locked in at the plate tonight and I’m hoping it means that he is healthy and back in hitting form.

Daniel Murphy has had an amazing season. Tonight, he had another multi-hit performance, accounting for six in his last twelve games. He has been such a valuable piece on this Mets squad and is a main reason for the team’s winning record right now. The season has been a huge step forward for his career and, although I don’t see him in a Mets uniform for much longer, I hope he continues to succeed at the major league level. He is exactly what he has been for this organization: a utility man with a solid bat.

Interesting Facts:

  • Before tonight, David Wright had not played in a major league game since May 15th.
  • With Jason Isringhausen’s save tonight, he is five away from the 300 mark.
  • The Mets drew seven walks tonight.

What’s Next?: The New York Mets will try to win the series against the Florida Marlins on Saturday night in Miami. Game Time 7:10 PM on WPIX.

Do you agree that David Wright is the face of the franchise? Is Daniel Murphy underrated?
