The New York Mets dropped another game Monday night against the Florida Marlins by a score of 4-1. Clay Hensley  silenced the Mets bats pitching five scoreless innings against them in a spot start. Cap’n Chris went nearly eight innings in the loss as the Mets fall under .500 for the first time since the Yankees came to town.

My Reaction:

Tomorrow night cannot come any sooner. Jose Reyes will be back on the field and the Mets can start scoring some runs. Tonight, the Mets were depressing to watch at the plate. Not only did they have only three hits, but they also didn’t score their sole run until the 9th inning. By the end of the week, the Mets should have both Reyes and Wright slotted in the lineup which would provide a nice boost to their offense.

Chris Capuano once again pitched well outside of one inning. He ran into trouble in the fourth inning when he gave up a two-run double to slugger Mike Stanton and a rbi single off the bat of ex-Met Mike Cameron. Outside of that, he was efficient with his pitches and kept the Mets in the game. Unfortunately for him, the hitting wasn’t there tonight and he took his ninth loss of the season.

Interesting Facts:

  • Jason Bay is batting .094 (3 for 32) in his latest skid. He drove in the Mets lone run with a sacrifice fly in the 9th inning.
  • The Mets had only one hit through the first six innings against Marlins pitching.
  • Willie Harris had two of the Mets three hits tonight.

What’s Next?: The New York Mets kick off a three-game series versus the St. Louis Cardinals at CitiField beginning Tuesday night. Game Time 7:10 PM on SNY.

NYM Dillon Gee (8-3) 3.76 ERA vs. STL Kyle Lohse (8-6) 3.32 ERA

Will Reyes and Wright’s return provide the spark the Mets need or is this season over with?
