The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees last night by a final score of 7-1. The anemic Yankee offense could only muster seven hits while leaving eight runners on base. With the loss, the Yanks drop to 53-37 on the season.

Tonight, sadly, could become a preface of things to come for this lineup without Alex Rodriguez. Without the main component of their batting order batting cleanup, someone has to step up, whether it’s one of the two bats we’re used to see do it (Mark Teixeira, Robinson Cano) or someone else who is looking to make a name for himself in the second half (Nick Swisher, Russell Martin). Tonight, the Yankees 1-4 hitters in the lineup went 0-15. Even if that means the bottom five in the lineup went 7-19, it’s still next to impossible to win when you have such a drought in an area of the lineup.

DJ4K: Derek didn’t increase his career-hit total tonight, as he remains at 3,005 career hits – two behind Al Kaline, Tiger great.
