CC Sabathia is an absolute beast. The big man tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout as the Yankees beat the Rays 1-0. He capped off the win by throwing a 98 MPH fastball by Elliot Johnson. Sabathia struck out nine and walked only one in the win. Sabathia finishes the first half with a 13-4 record and a 2.72. Hell, CC even got pied by AJ Burnett after the game. With the win, the Yankees finish off the first half with a 53-35 record, a game behind the Boston Red Sox.

Sabathia was opposed by fellow All-Star, James Shields. Shields matched Sabathia frame for frame until the seventh inning when two errors led to the only Yankee run. Shields threw a complete game of his own, scattering four hits, but his own throwing error plated the winning run for the Bombers.

The Yankee offense definitely experienced a little bit of DJ3K hangover, only managing four total hits, none for extra bases. The Captain had one, pushing his career total to 3,004. The countdown to DJ4K is on!

Back to CC. To put his first half dominance in perspective, Sabathia won nine of his last ten starts. Outside of his one loss against the Red Sox, Sabathia has given at least seven innings per start. He has struck out at least nine hitters over his last four starts, giving up only one earned run in his last 31.2 innings.

Bottom line, CC is worth every penny that the Yankees pay him. He dominates and saves the bullpen. What more can you ask for? He is taking his family to the Bahamas for the All-Star Break. Enjoy the sun, Big Man and get ready for the second half.

Sabathia, Jeter, A-Rod, and Mo will not participate in the All-Star Game, but Cano, D-Rob, Grandy Man, and R-Mart will be there. Check Robbie out tomorrow night in the HR Derby.
