The real Jason Bay showed up last night and Carlos Beltran continues to show why he is an All-Star as the Mets used three home runs to power themselves past the Dodgers 6-0. They move to 44-42 on the season, but remain 6.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card Race.

New York Mets' Jason Bay watches his home run off New York Mets pitcher Ted Lilly in the sixth inning of a baseball game in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.

What Happened:

Mike Pelfrey picked up his fifth win of the season, working in and  out of trouble for most of the game. He got out of two bases loaded jams as the paltry Dodgers lineup never made Pelfrey pay for his wildness, as he walked two and hit a batter through six inning of work. Pedro Beato, Jason Isringhausen, and DJ Carrasco worked the 7th, 8th, and 9th, as they combined for an eight  hit shutout.

The big story of the game however, was Jason Bay. Stuck in a slump since he arrived in Queens, is now hitting .347 with 17 RBIs in his last 18 games. His four RBIs is the most he’s had in a game this season. His first home run of the game made it 3-0 and his second put the game away, making the score 6-0

Interesting Facts:

-The Mets are now 3-0 without Jose Reyes in the lineup.

-Mike Pelfrey has now beaten every National League team throughout his career.

-Jason Bay had his first multi-home run game since June 28, 2010
