Chris Capuano pitched 6 solid innings, and the Mets scored 4 of their 5 runs with 2 outs to get the win.  Tonight’s win moves both Capuano’s (8-7) and the Mets’ season record (43-42) to a game above .500.

The Dodgers took an early 2-0 lead, thanks to RBI singles by James Loney in the 2nd and 4th innings.  But the Mets were able to strike back against Dodgers starter Rubby De La Rosa, who no-hit them for the first 5 innings.  They took a 3-2 lead in the 6th thanks to RBI doubles from Angel Pagan, Carlos Beltran, and Daniel Murphy.  RBI singles by Jason Bay and Lucas Duda in the 8th provided the final score, as the Mets bullpen finished the game by tossing 3 shutout innings.

3 Up:

Bobby Parnell: When he’s on, he’s just about unhittable.  2 perfect innings tonight, with a fastball that reached 101 MPH.  Imagine how good he’d be if he could consistently get a breaking pitch over the plate.

-Angel Pagan: Had a rough series against the Yankees, but bounced back tonight.  He scored 2 runs and pulled doubles down the line from both sides of the plate.

-America: Hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July!

3 Down:

Justin Turner: 0-3 and a painful-looking HBP.  This team really doesn’t need any more guys getting banged up.

-Standings: Despite the Mets’ inspired play (8-4 over their last 12, 2-0 without Reyes), the division leading Phillies (10.5 games ahead) and wild card leading Braves (6.5 games ahead) continue to stay hot and not allow the Mets to gain ground.

-Jason Bay: Had a good game, but a scary moment when he crashed into the wall to make a catch.  Unlike last year, he came away fine.

On Deck: Middle game, first pitch scheduled for 10:10 PM.
