The Scoop:

Dillon Gee faced off against Charlie Morton in the opener of a four game series. Gee is looking more and more like the real deal after every start. He pitched eight innings, yielding one run on eight hits and no walks while striking out five. The only run Gee allowed came across on a single in the first inning. He buckled down and threw zeros the rest of the night.

The Mets offense played a big part in the victory tonight. After scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first, the Pirates quickly tied it up. However, the Mets put up a five-spot in the fourth inning to give them a 6-1 lead. Lucas Duda singled in a run, followed by a Josh Thole single that drove him in. Then, Justin Turner drove in two on a clutch one-out single. Carlos Beltran capped off the inning by plating Jose Reyes on a sacrifice fly. The Mets would score two more runs in the later innings to win the game 8-1.

The Positives:

Gee Whiz: Dillon Gee is 7-0 to start the season. What more can you ask for from a rookie? By the way, eight innings is his longest outing in the majors. People have compared his stuff to Tom Glavine. I hope he is even half as good…

The Lineup: Each position player in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit in tonight’s ballgame. The Mets put up thirteen hits and drew three walks. Keep this up and maybe Mike Pelfrey can win a few games…

The Negatives:

None to speak of. Another flawless night.

Interesting Facts:

  • Jose Reyes leads the National League with a .340 batting average.
  • Not only does Dillon Gee have a perfect record, but the Mets have won each game he has started this season.
