The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros 7-4 on Sunday afternoon for the series win. Justin Turner drove in five rbis to bail out the Mets sloppy pitchers. The team is now 19-21 over their first 40 games as they head home to face some division rivals.

The Scoop:

Chris Capuano took the mound against Aneury Rodriguez in the rubber game of the series. Capuano pitched like a number five today, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks over five innings. Even though he was erratic, I liked that he got out of jams when needed.

Justin Turner was all the offense in the game. As a team, the Mets had five hits and only two of them were for extra-bases (both off the bat of Turner). Aneury Rodriguez held the Mets scoreless until the 5th inning when they erupted for four runs to go up 4-2. He struggled again in the 6th, as the Mets tacked on an extra three runs. The bullpen was lousy until Francisco Rodriguez entered to close it out in the ninth for a 7-4 victory.

The Positives:

Turn-er-round: Down by two runs in the top of the fifth, Justin Turner put the Mets on board with a two-run double to tie the game. It didn’t stop there, as he blasted a three-run home run in the following inning to give them a 7-2 lead. He was 2 for 3, while driving in five runs and scoring twice.

The Negatives:

1-4 hitters: Reyes, Thole, Wright, and Beltran combined to go hitless in 13 at-bats. The top of the order did draw four walks, but none of them scored. Thole and Wright are batting .222 and .226 on the season, respectively.

Bullpen: Outside of K-Rod’s perfect ninth inning, Buchholz, Byrdak, and Isringhausen combined to yield two runs on four hits and two walks over three innings of relief. Luckily, the Mets had enough run support to hold out.

Interesting Facts:

6: Walks drawn by Mets in the game

9: Combined home runs hit in the series

14: Stolen bases for Jose Reyes, who is now tied with Michael Bourn for the league lead
