AJ Burnett allowed no hits through five innings, but still allowed an unearned run as a throw-over to first got away from Mark Teixeira and a sac fly scored Don Kelly. Besides that one blunder, he did a great job keeping the ball around the corners and having short innings.

However, the Tigers ended up earning some runs off of him in the sixth and seventh innings and the Yankees were never able to recover.

Eric Chavez lined a triple in the top of the fourth to score Curtis Granderson to tie up the game at 1-1. It was the first run the Yankees had scored in 14 innings – their longest drought on the year. However, he would pull up lame into third and had to be sit down for Alex Rodriguez to pinch-run. Don’t you hate it when you think you have a day off and you get called in early? Later that same inning, Eduardo Nunez slapped a single into right to score A-Rod.
