In case you missed it, the Yankees have placed Phil Hughes on the 15-day disabled list. Hughes apparently is suffering from a ‘dead arm phase’ and will just be shut down for the next week. The Yankees will not send Hughes to the minor leagues.

“My velocity’s just not there. My arm feels dead. This will able me to build arm strength and get this right.” Said Mr. Hughes.

The Yankees called up righty, Lance Pendleton to fill the Hughes void. Pendleton impressed in his debut, throwing three perfect innings in relief last night against the Rangers. Pendleton was not on the 40-man roster, but I’m assuming that the Yankees will move Pedro Feliciano to the 60-day disabled list to make room.

This is a smart move by the Yankees. Let Hughesy take some time off and begin to air it out later next week. Bartolo Colon will assume Hughes’ vacated spot in the rotation. The 2005 AL Cy Young award winner has given up five earned runs in eleven innings of work out of the pen thus far.
