The Yankees and free agent pitcher, Bartolo Colon agreed to a minor league contract today. Colon can earn up to $900,000 in the Majors if he makes the team. The Yankees also have an option to release the 38-year-old if he doesn’t make the team in Spring Training. Colon hasn’t pitched in the Major since 2009. Since winning the Cy Young Award in 2005, the beefy righty has dealt with a plethora of injuries and has only started 37 games.

Colon claims to be in the ‘best shape of his life’ but I will believe it when I see it. This deal is very team friendly for the Yankees. The risk is minimal and the upside is well, worth a look for 900K. While Colon’s past splits indicate that he’s virtually done, let’s see what he does in Spring Training.
