Due to heavy showers all across the New York region, the Mets have postponed tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. They will play a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 4:10 PM.

Mark Sanchez and his New York Jets delivered an exceptional performance against their rival Miami Dolphins Sunday night to give them a 31-23 victory in front of a national audience which moved them to 2-1 on the young season. Behind another great game by Sanchez and tight end Dustin Keller, the Jets did exactly what they needed too following last week’s win over New England, follow it up with a road win against a division opponent. They have now won at least two of their first three games in back to back years and for only the second time in four seasons.

The Yankees have determined that their three horses will pitch against the Blue Jays. Obviously this is subject to change if the Yankees clinch, so don’t write these starters down in stone. Many fans believed Sabathia would get the ball on Friday, lining him up for a Game 1 ALDS start, but Joe Girardi has not confirmed that notion. The Yanks have got to clinch first. The Blue Jays currently have a 80-75 record and they definitely want to finish above .500, so they’ll sell out to win these games.

Message to the Yankee pitchers. Jose Bautista can hit the ball far. Really far….

Monday, 7:10 PM, YES: AJ Burnett (10-14, 5.05 ERA) vs. Marc Rzepczynski (2-4, 5.75 ERA)

**Burnett is 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA in three starts against the Jays. Rzepcyznski has fared worse than Burnett, going 0-1 with a 14.14 ERA in two starts against the Bombers.

Tuesday, 7:10 PM, YES: CC Sabathia (20-7, 3.26 ERA) vs. Kyle Drabek (0-2, 4.91 ERA)

**Big C has not faced the Jays this year, but 3-0 with a 2.57 ERA against them from 2007-2009.

**Kyle Drabek, the prized pitcher acquired from the Phillies in the Roy Halladay trade, has never faced the Yankees. Great. We all know how that has gone for the Yanks this year.

Wednesday, 7:10 PM, YES: Andy Pettitte (11-3, 3.17 ERA) vs. Brett Cecil (14-7, 4.20 ERA)

**Pettitte is 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA against the Jays this year.

**Cecil is 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA in four starts against the Bombers.

Over the last four games, the Yankees have played one of the worst brands of baseball I’ve seen in awhile. That trend continued tonight as Mariano Rivera allowed four Red Sox stolen bases in the ninth inning as he blew a 2-1 Yankee advantage. Down 3-2 in the ninth inning against Jonathan Papelbon, the Yankees were able to battle back and tie the score at three on a Robinson Cano, bases-loaded single. Jorge Posada and Lance Berkman were unable to end the contest so the game went to extra innings. Joba Chamberlain and Boone Logan combined for a perfect tenth inning, setting the table for the bottom of the frame.

After a Curtis Granderson lead-off single, Brett Garnder laid down a picture perfect bunt. Catcher Victor Martinez made an errant throw, allowing Granderson to advance to third base. Derek Jeter was intentionally walked before Marcus Thames made the first out of the single on a sharp ground ball to third. Juan Miranda was able to earn the walk-off walk, giving the Yankees a 4-3 win.

With the win, the Yankees magic number falls to one. The Tampa Bay Rays lost to the Mariners this afternoon so the Yankees currently sit a half game behind the Rays in the AL East.

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 on Saturday night. They spoiled the Phillies chance at clinching a playoff berth. With eight games remaining in the season, all the Mets can do is wreak havoc against contenders.

Jon Lester was electric for the Red Sox tonight, blanking the Yankees over seven innings of work. Ivan Nova started for the Yanks and failed to make it through five innings. After Nova departed, Royce Ring was brought on to retire David Ortiz, but Ortiz singled and Ring left. So much for his post-season roster hopes. Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson homered for the Bombers, collecting their 28th and 23rd bombs, respectively.  The Yankees magic number still sits at three with seven games to go. The Yankees have now dropped four in a row at home and desperately need a win tomorrow night on ESPN. The Red Sox will send out AL ERA leader Clay Buchholz to the rubber. The Yankees will counter with…..Dustin Moseley! Gulp.

The staff has weighed in with their Week 3 NFL selections. There isn’t as much parity as there was last week, but nonetheless, there are a few key upsets that multiple staffers have picked. Also, be sure to check out the ‘Locks of the Week’, which will net the columnist one additional point and two additional points for nailing the upset of the week.

The team that boasted all of pre-season of being the team to beat showed it in a big way last Sunday. The Jets throttled the Patriots at home 28-14, evening their record to 1-1 on the season. They’ll be heading on the road for the first time this season to take on the Miami Dolphins in a nationally televised affair on Sunday Night Football. While last week was a huge game for the J-E-T-S, this week might be bigger. Improving on last week is huge for Sanchez and company.

In a game that featured not one, but TWO A-Bombs, two Mark Teixeira text messages, a Nick Swisher shot, and a Curtis Granderson long ball has to figure to be a Yankee win, right? Wrong. The Boston Red Sox shipped down to the Bronx and took down Andy Pettitte and the New York Yankees 10-8. With the tough loss and the Rays win, Tampa Bay jumps back into first place.
