Initial Reaction:

Mike Pelfrey faced off against Adalberto Mendez in Game 1 of 2 against the Florida Marlins. Pelfrey was very efficient with his pitches and has shown much improvement since his mid-season troubles. The Mets offense had opportunity after opportunity to score runs against the Marlins starter. They only scored runs off home runs, and could not get a hit with runners in scoring position.

Lucas Duda’s bat has looked much smoother as of late. It’s terrific to see young guys like him show improvement at the major league level.

Positives From The Game:

Big Pelf: This is the Mike Pelfrey we saw earlier in the season. He pitched seven strong innings allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks, while striking out four. Pelf had great command of the strike zone and gave his team a good chance of winning the game.

The Dude: After a 1 for 33 start at the plate, Lucas Duda is 7 for 14 in his last five games. Tonight, Duda had two hits, including a solo shot (2) in the second inning to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead.

Wright Track: David Wright has hit a home run in consecutive games. He was 3 for 4 with a solo home run (25) in the 8th inning to tie the game up at two apiece. He’s only five RBIs away from breaking the 100 RBI mark for the season.

Negatives From The Game:

Elmer: Brought into a tie ball game, Elmer Dessens gave up a three-run home run in the 8th inning to Gaby Sanchez, putting the Marlins up 5-2.
