The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 on Thursday night. They swept the Pirates in a four-game series, and it is the first time they have won four straight since mid-June. They now stand a game above .500 for the season while heading into enemy territory this weekend.

Initial Reaction:

Mike Pelfrey took the mound against Charlie Morton in the final game of the series. Pelfrey pitched well for the second consecutive start, getting into trouble at times, but limiting the damage. The Mets offense didn’t get going until the 4th inning, when Ike Davis and Josh Thole both reached base for Lucas Duda, who drove them in with a double ripped into right field. The game became tied 2-2. The Mets would later take the lead in the 6th inning on a double from Mike Pelfrey that drove in Lucas Duda from second base. A few more runs, along with a perfect bullpen, secured the sweep for the squad.

Positives From The Game:

Big Pelf: Mike Pelfrey pitched seven solid innings yielding two runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four. He earned his 15th win of the season.

Angel In The Outfield: With a 3 for 5 performance, Angel Pagan now has a three game multi-hit streak. His double in the eighth inning accounted for his 30th of the season. He drove in two and scored a run. Not to mention, he made a brilliant diving catch in deep right center.

Dude-uh!: Lucas Duda’s bat woke up from hibernation. After a 1 for 33 skid to start his major league career, Duda rocketed two doubles into right field tonight. Maybe this will calm the kid down at the plate.

Negatives From The Game:
