Initial Reaction:

Dillon Gee took the mound against James McDonald in the opener of a four-game series. Gee looked phenomenal on the mound, despite walking four batters and earning a no decision. He avoided the “big inning”, which is always a struggle for rookie hurlers.

The offense was a different story. They only put together seven hits in the game, and didn’t score til the 10th inning. This is a Pirates team that has one of the worst pitching ERA’s in the league. Just embarrassing…

Positives From The Game:

Gee Whiz: After a stellar major league debut, Dillon Gee gave fans another hopeful performance. He went six innings allowing no runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out three. His ERA in his first two starts is 0.69.

Nick of Time: Nick Evans should replace Lucas Duda in left field. Tonight, Evans singled in Ruben Tejada in the 10th inning as a pinch hitter to walk off against the Pirates. Good for Nick!

TK: Hisanori Takahashi earned the victory tonight. He pitched two scoreless frames, yielding only one hit and one walk. He’s shown the ability to pitch in every situation this year, and definitely deserves a contract extension for 2011.

Negatives From The Game:

McDonald?: Even though they won the game 1-0, they couldn’t push a run across against James McDonald…who???

Interesting Facts:

  • Mets were caught stealing twice tonight (0 for 2 in attempts)
  • Lucas Duda is still sitting on one lone career hit
  • Hisanori Takahashi now has nine wins, six saves, and three holds (so versatile)
