The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees in the Bronx today. Wow, that was the first time I’ve written that this season. However, the O’s were the better team today, as they took the first game of this series, 4-3. The Yankee offense only mustered five total hits as young lefty Brian Matusz kept the Yanks at bay all game. Alex Rodriguez hit his 22nd home run and recorded his 100th RBI on the year. This is the 14th straight season where A-Rod has recorded at least 100 RBIs. With that RBI, A-Rod passes Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Jimmie Foxx for the longest 100 RBI streak in MLB history… AJ Burnett took his 13th loss of the year.

Initial Reaction:

The story of the game was obviously A-Rod historic feat. The slugging righty has now recorded 100 RBIs in his last 14 seasons. Rodriguez’s will need to go on a tear over his final 23 games to get to 30 home runs (currently at 22), a streak he has had for 12 straight years.

In a game where you expected AJ Burnett to come out and dominate, he simply just didn’t. Burnett gave up four runs on seven hits over seven innings. When you have the talent of AJ Burnett, facing one of the weaker hitting teams in baseball, you need to dominate.

Positives From The Game:

A-Rod: For the reasons stated above

Robby Cano: Mr. Cano’s sixth inning RBI single moved his season total to 94. Pretty good for the sweet swinging lefty.

Negatives From The Game:

Bottom Doesn’t Come Through: The 7,8,9 hitters for the Yanks went 0-for-8 today.

Interesting Facts:

The A-Rod stats from above are pretty cool.
